Charter Schools are tuition-free public schools that serve children in Elementary, Middle and/or High School. A charter school is similar to a public school in that it receives funding from local or State government to server local children. A charter school may have residency requirements depending upon the state and the actual “Charter” the school operates under.
Some charter school offer a specialized curriculum in fields such as art, mathematics, science, technology, space or STEM education. Charter Schools may be run by parents, teachers, administrators or education reformers who believe that the local public schools are not properly serving the local children effectively.
41 US states and the District of Columbia currently have pro-regulation allowing the formation of charter schools or Community schools as indicated by Ohio.
